Israel Easy is a blog of unsolicited recommendations gleaned from listservs posted by Anglos. It's the whom to call, what to do, where to go and how to do just about anything in Israel, easy, tried & true.

Hi. Can someone help my wife and I. We were both raised nonreligious and did not no that we were Jewish. We did the traditional thing in England and had a beautiful white church wedding. Then some time later while researching the family I discovered that my mother was Jewish. For years we have felt a strong desire to make Aliyah. Last year we went to Israel. We left with an even stronger desire to be there. We felt like we had come home - it was most strange. Now in the process of Aliyah we have a marriage certificate which states we were married in a church - but we feel uncomfortable about that. We could get married again - but we just do not know what to do about this. Any advice please. Shalom.

I regret having made Aliya.

Israel high tech is dominated by ex army types so there is a glass ceiling for immigrants and an abrupt end of work life at 45 or so.

Although it is politically correct to moan about the hate Askenazim have for Sephardim it is the Sephardim who are the most destructive. My Moroccan inlaws don't speak to my children because they are not dark enough and didn't speak to my life for 10 years after we were married.

Israel is a corrupt society. I had a bike accident and the cops want to charge me with dangerous driving because i refused to say that I lost consciousness while riding.

Even my children curse me for coming to Israel. The school system sucks, the army is a nightmare, the ultra orthadox have stolen judaism and north americans are simply not wanted.

Oh ...after I returned from the hospital with a concussion and a brain injury the owner of the story decided to make the best of it and give me change for a 50 eve though I gave him a 200.

Fuck the people. Fuck the country. Go to OZ instead. Go anywhere ...just not to Israel.

Hi-

My boyfriend and I are wanting to go to graduate school in Israel using the Nefesh b'nefesh program. My question is this: how do we apply for the housing subsidies and such if we want to live together but not get married? Is there a way? Can we each apply for the single status one and then use the money for the same apartment, or is that against the rules? I've had a lot of trouble finding information on this. Thank you!

My son is planning to make aliyah and wants to study at IDC. Because its in English. He is worried it will be to hard to study in Hebrew. Is there a good program to attend for a year that will prepare him for studying in hebrew.?

I really enjoyed reading your blog. I've experienced so many of the same things that you have, my friends thinking I was crazy for coming to Israel, Israelis thinking I'm crazy for coming to Israel, the customer-is-always-wrong policy, the bureaucracy.... I moved to the south, but I'm not a medical student, so I hardly know any Americans, or really many people who can really relate to my experiences. It was nice reading about another girl who can relate :)

Hi Jessica,

Thanks for writing your blog. My parents are Israeli but I grew up in the States and have always felt "out of place" there. I spent many summers in Israel as a kid.

Now, I am studying in China, for many reasons, but one of them is to experience life outside of the U.S. Living here helps me see American culture more clearly and realize how much I just don't fit there.

Last week, I went to Israel for a wedding. I haven't been there for 12 years and my last trip in 1997 was short, so I wasn't able to really experience it fully. So, really, I haven't been to Israel for 20 years!

In a word, I loved it! I felt like I was home. I know I only saw it very superficially, but I am considering moving there when I complete my studies in China.

Thanks for your writings.
